Okay so this book was absolutely nothing like I expected it to be but I ended up really enjoying certain storylines. Books like this can be really hard to rate as there were at least 5 different character/relationship plots to keep track of. With each one having separate journeys, some better than others.
The book did great on the diversity of characters, both in relationship type, race, religion, age, and sexual orientation which I appreciated. However, some characters I enjoyed much more than others for various reasons I can’t fully list without spoiling the whole book. And some characters’ voices were a little too similar at certain points which made it a little hard to keep track of everyone. The main two character’s plots were the most interesting by far and I felt the most connected to them. And no one stood out as being “bad” or poorly written which made it a much easier read.
The plots themselves relied on classic romance tropes but with a twist. The big event in the beginning that starts everyone on their journey started as a little overdone but I loved the direction it went. It did take me a second to get into it just based on keeping everyone straight but once I formed connections to them I enjoyed every storyline. Of course, some were more interesting than others but overall everyone had some serious growth and came out the other end better people for it.
All in all, I recommend renting this book, as I did. I wouldn’t necessarily want it on my shelves or spend $15 on it but I would definitely recommend reading it. Just for the main two characters' plotlines alone. Of if you watched Love, Actually, and liked it but found yourself wishing it was gayer. Happy reading!
